As the school year is coming to an end here are some dates to remember:

This week we had two parents come in. Maya’s dad talked to us about teeth, what’s inside them, and what we can do to take care of them. Brody’s mom came in to celebrate his birthday and read a wonderful book about autism: What about me?
If you would like to come in as guest to read a book or talk about your profession and what you do, please let me know.
It was a pleasure to see you all at our Breakfast and Books Valentine’s celebration. Students were excited to perform for you in French.
On Friday Feb. 9, Mr. Burbank came to our school to talk about how meteorologists prepare for the weather forecast. Students were exited to discover that meteorologists use weather balloons to measure the temperature and the humidity up in the sky.
We started this New Year sharing our excitement about new discoveries that will happen in the months to come. We attended an enrichment program about Pilgrims where students had a chance to try on pilgrim clothes, play different games, and practice writing letters on a slate just as pilgrim children did back then.
This week we attended the Nutcracker story telling performance by the Boston Ballet School where children learned that we could tell stories without words, using our bodies.
In the last 10 days we have been busy learning about pilgrims. We have expressed our thankful ideas by making a growing gratitude tree. We also made handprint turkey cards to wish a happy Thanksgiving to our families.
Important dates: Nov. 13 picture retake day; Nov. 15 half day.
This week we honored our Veterans by singing patriotic songs at the Lafayette Nursing home and the community meeting. We learned about the invaluable contribution of veterans to our country by reading books and magazines. Also, Sophia’s dad came to talk to us about his job as a nurse in the Army. Students also learned how to do a military salute. Curriculum highlights from the week:
Important: At least 2 chaperones are needed for Nov. 8th to walk to the Lafayette Nursing Home from 10:40 to 12:00. Chaperones need to be CORI certified and fingerprinted.
This was an eventful week where children enjoyed the Wax Museum and the Halloween party. Thank you to all the parents for organizing the party and coming in to share these moments. Highlights from the week:
In the last couple of weeks we have been busy preparing the class for the Halloween Wax Museum. We made a pumpkin glyph and discussed how, like us, pumpkins are similar in certain ways and different in others. On October 21st we attended the Bridges program run by the Museum of Science. Students enjoyed problem solving, designing, building, and testing out their bridge designs in groups. Thank you to the PTO for sponsoring the event!
